Don't be a Turkey for This Week's Trades

November 22, 2016 3:51AM CST

Just a reminder and a head’s up, Thanksgiving is a US holiday. I mention it because although the stock exchange is closed, there are no longer Pit trading hours, and our office are closed,  there is s till an abbreviated session to accommodate our overseas counterparts who will be open for trading Wednesday night and into the morning on Thanksgiving Day. Our 24 Hour trading desk is open and you will be able to trade online.

Before you end your day tomorrow, please be aware that the financial markets, metals, and energies will open for electronic trading at 5:00 p.m. central standard time. This session will conclude at noon Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. If you trade during that session, or if you carry open positions into this shortened session, your account balances and margin responsibilities can be affected by the activity that takes places during this time period. For example, adverse market activity may cause a margin call going into Monday’s trade day even if your account was not on margin call at the end of Wednesday’s session.

The best place to be during a low volume holiday is on the sidelines. If you cannot be, be aware and in tune with what may be happening while you are celebrating.

Have a safe and happy holiday!
