Stock Indices Recap - 12/28/2016

December 28, 2016 9:35AM CST

March S&P finished up 94.1 at 2355, -87.7 off the high and 111 up from the low. March S&P E-Mini closed down 15.5 at 2245.5. This was 2 up from the low and 22 off the high.

The equity markets showed initial strength, but then reversed course and came under somewhat significant selling pressure. Some will suggest that the failure to take out the 20,000 level in the Dow was cause for selling, while others will suggest that softer than expected US pending home sales was cause for the shift in sentiment. It is also possible that less optimistic annual forward views are surfacing because of the threatened number of US rate hikes in 2017.
