Quarterly Grain Report's View on Corn

July 3, 2017 2:09PM CDT

With the Quarterly Grain Stocks report out of the way, and the corn stocks and carry over still larger, the market will continue to look at July as pollination month for corn. The weather will have to be ideal, warm, and humid throughout this period. With planting and replanting somewhat erratic during during the Spring planting period, pollination will be somewhat later than normal. This brings pollination into the later part of July, which can be stressful if there is excessive heat and dryness. Already, there are areas of dryness primarily in the Northern Plains. If this pattern starts to expand, the corn belt could be affected during the crucial pollination. One has to be very nimble trading in this weather environment, as it can change very quickly.
