Global markets found their footing after a mild improvement in risk sentiment, but are still some distance away from being in a "risk on" mood midway through Wednesday's trading session. The event of the morning came from the Bank of Canada who surprised the market by hiking Canadian benchmark rates by 0.25% which may be a positive sign for North American growth prospects. As a result, US equities were able to grind out moderate gains for Wednesday's trading session.
